Noticing Trends
watching how the economy, fuel prices and car wreck cases track each other is a morbid and fascinating subject. As prices started rising back in April, cases started falling off. The number of calls I got for auto related cases dropped to nothing for a few months. The other lawyers I know and doctors also complained of the change in business. It isn't that we hope for people to get hurt, that would just be morally wrong. But, if it's the source that feeds your family, you notice when the supply is getting small. Despite the fact that gas prices have not leveled out, I think that people must be adjusting or driving again. New cases are coming in at almost their normal rate. My guess is that people are either getting sloppy with their driving, or that the number of miles driven must be going back up. Perhaps people have reached a point that their lifestyles cuts allow them to buy gas, or they have come to the conclusion they must drive to find work. I'm relieved to have cases coming in, but I feel for those who are getting hurt.
Do be careful, especially this holiday weekend. I can say that the wrecks I'm getting calls on and the ones I've seen have been higher damage accidents. Holiday weekends are notorious for alcohol related accidents. Keep a watchful eye out while you are on the road.
Be safe.
